Wordless Wednesday, The re-making of the class library

· ·
It’s Wednesday which means it’s time to link up for another Wordless Wednesday post!

My classroom library has taken over the guest bedroom!  I guess my class library technically is a guest since I can’t move it into my new school until August.  I must admit that I’m pretty darn proud of myself!  I made it a goal for this summer to get my classroom library under control and organized, and I’m already off to a great start!

Right now I’ve just started separating all of my books into categories (animal fiction, Dr. Seuss, Disney, weather, holidays, etc.).  I’ve only been through one box so far and have 3 others to get through – I don’t have a large library, yet.  I went through this process last year, but didn’t label the books so my kiddos didn’t know where to put them back.  Lets just say the class library was in a bit of shambles by May.  You live and learn, and I won’t be making that mistake again.

Once I get through the other boxes I’ll figure out which stacks can be combined and what types of books I may need more of.  I will also pull books to go into a leveled library section, however I want the majority of my library to just be organized into categories so my kiddos get experience picking “just right” books.

So my question for you is, what summer teaching-related project or plans do you have?

    1. I would LOVE to do some PBL. My new school is a lot more hands on, but not sure if they've ever approached PBL. I do plan on bringing it up once I start meeting with my team and principal!

    1. Morning work was a struggle for me this year, too! Finally I got fed up with it and started making the packets a month at a time, then the kiddos just kept the packets in their desks to pull out when they got to school in the mornings. It helped tremendously.

  1. Oh my goodness! I am right there with you! My library is in serious need of an overhaul. I just get so frustrated every time I try because so many books fit into so many categories and I just can't find a "good" way to sort them. I need to make like Nike and JUST DO IT!

    Good luck 🙂

    1. That's the spirit! 🙂 I'm piecing together a way that will *hopefully* work for me. I plan on writing a blog post about it when I finish, so maybe it will help others! I currently have about 40 stacks of books, so I'll have to start combining some, but I'm just going on a first instinct basis right now for sorting.

P.S. – I NEED one of those water bottles you posted about! AMAZING!
