<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Can we talk about November for a second? It’s that magical window between Halloween sugar highs and winter break countdowns, when routines are <em>almost</em> solid — but the excitement for holidays starts creeping in. That’s exactly why I started building Thanksgiving reading activities for 2nd grade that keep students engaged, motivated, and learning — even when their minds are drifting toward turkey, crafts, and family time.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Suddenly, everything takes a little longer…</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/2728.png" alt="✨" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Morning work becomes a conversation about turkey crafts<br><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/2728.png" alt="✨" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Transitions stretch as students stop to show you their latest “wobbly tooth”<br><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/2728.png" alt="✨" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> And independent work? Well… sometimes it’s <em>not so independent.</em></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A few years ago, I reached that “something’s gotta shift” point. My students <em>wanted</em> to be engaged — I could see it — but worksheets weren’t doing the trick. They needed movement, partner work, and hands-on practice that still supported real reading skills.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So I made <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Reading-Activities-2nd-Grade-Turkey-Reading-Games-Centers-8744291?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=2nd%20Grade%20Thanksgiving%20Reading%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Thanksgiving reading activities for 2nd grade </a>that weren’t just cute… they were purposeful, aligned, and FUN.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And here’s the best part:</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f49b.png" alt="💛" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> They become routines kids look forward to<br><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f49b.png" alt="💛" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> They reinforce your instruction through repetition and play<br><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f49b.png" alt="💛" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> And you (yes, YOU) get moments of calm during centers, mornings, or small groups</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">That’s when I knew I had something special — and today, I&#8217;m sharing those same Thanksgiving literacy centers and games so you can experience the same transformation.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f342.png" alt="🍂" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Why Thanksgiving Literacy Centers Work So Well in November</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Second graders thrive when learning feels meaningful, social, and connected to what’s happening in the world around them — and November brings the perfect seasonal hook.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">These <strong>Thanksgiving reading activities</strong> strike the balance between skill-building and engagement, making them ideal for:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Small group reading</li>

<li>Centers</li>

<li>Morning tubs</li>

<li>Early finisher choices</li>

<li>Sub plans</li>

<li>Classroom parties</li>

<li>Partner or independent practice</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And because each center follows a predictable structure, students quickly build confidence and independence — which leaves you free to teach small groups without constant interruptions.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f9e1.png" alt="🧡" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> A Peek Inside the Thanksgiving Reading Activities for 2nd grade</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Each activity in this set focuses on a key 2nd-grade reading skill — all aligned to CCSS &amp; TEKS — wrapped in a Thanksgiving theme that feels motivating and playful.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Here’s what’s included:</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f983.png" alt="🦃" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <strong>1. Compound Cornucopia</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This game helps students practice identifying and building compound words — a skill that strengthens vocabulary, decoding, and overall language flexibility.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Players spin and move around the festive game board, collecting compound matches as they go.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Reading-Activities-2nd-Grade-Turkey-Reading-Games-Centers-8744291?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=2nd%20Grade%20Thanksgiving%20Reading%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="1024" height="512" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-6-1024x512.png" alt="Compound Cornucopia literacy center game for Thanksgiving reading activities in 2nd grade. <p class="wp-block-paragraph">Why students love it:<br><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/27a1.png" alt="➡" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> It feels like a competitive board game</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Why teachers love it:<br><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/27a1.png" alt="➡" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> It reinforces vocabulary patterns that support both reading and writing</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f9e9.png" alt="🧩" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <strong>2. Turkey, Pie, and Puzzles (Synonym Match)</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Vocabulary knowledge is one of the strongest predictors of long-term reading comprehension — and this puzzle-style game builds it naturally.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Students match synonyms to build hidden pictures piece-by-piece. Perfect for partner work!</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Reading-Activities-2nd-Grade-Turkey-Reading-Games-Centers-8744291?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=2nd%20Grade%20Thanksgiving%20Reading%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="512" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-5-1024x512.png" alt="Thanksgiving synonym matching game for 2nd grade literacy centers. <p class="wp-block-paragraph">Why students love it:<br><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/27a1.png" alt="➡" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> The mystery picture reveal is motivating and satisfying</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Why teachers love it:<br><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/27a1.png" alt="➡" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Students focus without even realizing how hard they’re working</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f3a4.png" alt="🎤" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <strong>3. Slice, Slice, Rhyming Is Nice</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Rhyming may feel like a primary skill, but at this stage, it builds phonemic awareness, word analysis, and flexibility with spelling patterns.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Students draw cards, find rhyming matches, and use strategy to BUMP or FREEZE spots — similar to a bingo-style game.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Reading-Activities-2nd-Grade-Turkey-Reading-Games-Centers-8744291?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=2nd%20Grade%20Thanksgiving%20Reading%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="512" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/3-5-1024x512.png" alt="Thanksgiving rhyming literacy game for 2nd grade students. <p class="wp-block-paragraph">Why students love it:<br><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/27a1.png" alt="➡" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> The competitive twist keeps attention high</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Why teachers love it:<br><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/27a1.png" alt="➡" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> It develops foundational reading awareness in a playful way</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f37d.png" alt="🍽" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <strong>4. Serving Up Endings: -ED, -S, and -ING</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Word endings are a big concept in 2nd grade — especially for spelling, grammar, and decoding multisyllabic words.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In this literacy center game, students spin to see which ending to apply, then determine whether the base word can take it.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Reading-Activities-2nd-Grade-Turkey-Reading-Games-Centers-8744291?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=2nd%20Grade%20Thanksgiving%20Reading%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="512" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-4-1024x512.png" alt="Word endings literacy center game for Thanksgiving reading activities in 2nd grade. <p class="wp-block-paragraph">Why students love it:<br><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/27a1.png" alt="➡" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> The spinner adds novelty and choice</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Why teachers love it:<br><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/27a1.png" alt="➡" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> It reinforces patterns needed for accurate writing and reading fluency</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f341.png" alt="🍁" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <strong>5. Falling for Heart Words (Editable)</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This editable game is a teacher favorite because you can customize it for:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Sight words</li>

<li>Heart words</li>

<li>Phonics patterns</li>

<li>Weekly spelling words</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Students spin, cover words, and work toward a blackout or 5-in-a-row win.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Reading-Activities-2nd-Grade-Turkey-Reading-Games-Centers-8744291?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=2nd%20Grade%20Thanksgiving%20Reading%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="512" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-4-1024x512.png" alt="Editable sight word and heart word Thanksgiving literacy center game for 2nd grade. <p class="wp-block-paragraph">Why students love it:<br><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/27a1.png" alt="➡" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Quick gameplay and repeat rounds</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Why teachers love it:<br><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/27a1.png" alt="➡" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> You can reuse this again and again — long past November</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f4ad.png" alt="💭" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> How to Introduce These Successfully</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of my favorite classroom routines is:</p>

<blockquote class="wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow">
<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Teach a new game whole-group, then release it into centers.</strong></p>
</blockquote>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I model the rules, play a round on the doc cam, and let students “beat the teacher.”<br>Not only is it fun — it sets expectations and builds excitement.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Once introduced, these become automatic go-to choices.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Let’s be real — by the time November hits, every 1st grade teacher is ready for a little less chaos and a little more calm. Between conferences, assessments, and the sugar rush from class parties, we all need activities that <em>keep kids learning without taking hours to prep.</em> That’s exactly why I created these <strong>Thanksgiving Literacy Center</strong>s — fun, skill-based reading games that help your students stay engaged, build essential skills, and make your November teaching days feel a whole lot lighter.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">These <strong><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Literacy-Centers-Activities-for-1st-Grade-Turkey-Reading-Games-8724917?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=1st%20Grade%20Thanksgiving%20Reading%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Thanksgiving reading games</a></strong> aren’t just adorable turkey-themed time fillers — they’re research-backed, standard-aligned, and genuinely effective at helping 1st graders strengthen their phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension. And the best part? They’re simple to prep, easy to store, and can be reused year after year.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f983.png" alt="🦃" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Why Teachers Love Thanksgiving Literacy Centers</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In my classroom, I keep each game laminated and stored in a gallon-sized bag, ready to pull out every November. When my students see the Thanksgiving theme, they light up — and I know I can count on 10–15 minutes of independent, focused work time while they play.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Each of these <strong>Thanksgiving reading activities</strong> targets a key 1st grade literacy skill and can be used during centers, small group time, or even as a quiet activity while you finish up those mid-year assessments.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Here’s a peek inside:</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">1&#x20e3; <strong>Buffet of Beginning Blends</strong> – Students spin and move their way through blend sounds, reinforcing phonemic awareness and decoding skills.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Literacy-Centers-Activities-for-1st-Grade-Turkey-Reading-Games-8724917?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=1st%20Grade%20Thanksgiving%20Reading%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="512" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-5-1024x512.png" alt="1st grade Thanksgiving literacy centers game called Buffet of Beginning Blends where students spin to practice beginning blend sounds using a Thanksgiving theme." class="wp-image-46479" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-5-1024x512.png 1024w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-5-300x150.png 300w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-5-768x384.png 768w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-5-1536x768.png 1536w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-5-2048x1024.png 2048w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-5-75x38.png 75w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-5-100x50.png 100w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-5-125x63.png 125w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-5-600x300.png 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">2&#x20e3; <strong>Mayflower Matching</strong> – Nonfiction text features come to life as students match terms like <em>caption</em> and <em>diagram</em> to their examples.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Literacy-Centers-Activities-for-1st-Grade-Turkey-Reading-Games-8724917?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=1st%20Grade%20Thanksgiving%20Reading%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="512" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-4-1024x512.png" alt="Thanksgiving reading game for 1st grade titled Mayflower Matching where students match text features like captions and diagrams in a fun literacy center." class="wp-image-46480" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-4-1024x512.png 1024w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-4-300x150.png 300w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-4-768x384.png 768w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-4-1536x768.png 1536w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-4-2048x1024.png 2048w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-4-75x38.png 75w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-4-100x50.png 100w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-4-125x63.png 125w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-4-600x300.png 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">3&#x20e3; <strong>Sweet Sight Word Bingo</strong> – Classic BINGO, but with sight words your students actually need. Great for independent or partner play!</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Literacy-Centers-Activities-for-1st-Grade-Turkey-Reading-Games-8724917?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=1st%20Grade%20Thanksgiving%20Reading%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="512" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1st-Grade-Thanksgiving-Reading-Centers-1024x512.png" alt="Thanksgiving sight word bingo game for 1st grade reading centers that helps students practice high-frequency words through an engaging Thanksgiving activity." class="wp-image-46482" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1st-Grade-Thanksgiving-Reading-Centers-1024x512.png 1024w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1st-Grade-Thanksgiving-Reading-Centers-300x150.png 300w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1st-Grade-Thanksgiving-Reading-Centers-768x384.png 768w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1st-Grade-Thanksgiving-Reading-Centers-1536x768.png 1536w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1st-Grade-Thanksgiving-Reading-Centers-2048x1024.png 2048w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1st-Grade-Thanksgiving-Reading-Centers-75x38.png 75w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1st-Grade-Thanksgiving-Reading-Centers-100x50.png 100w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1st-Grade-Thanksgiving-Reading-Centers-125x63.png 125w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1st-Grade-Thanksgiving-Reading-Centers-600x300.png 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">4&#x20e3; <strong>Dinner Dash</strong> – Students clap out syllables to move across the board — the perfect mix of rhythm, reading, and fun.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Literacy-Centers-Activities-for-1st-Grade-Turkey-Reading-Games-8724917?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=1st%20Grade%20Thanksgiving%20Reading%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="512" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-3-1024x512.png" alt="1st grade Thanksgiving reading activity called Dinner Dash where students clap and count syllables to move along the game board during literacy centers." class="wp-image-46483" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-3-1024x512.png 1024w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-3-300x150.png 300w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-3-768x384.png 768w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-3-1536x768.png 1536w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-3-2048x1024.png 2048w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-3-75x38.png 75w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-3-100x50.png 100w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-3-125x63.png 125w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-3-600x300.png 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">5&#x20e3; <strong>Baked Potato Bump</strong> – Vocabulary practice gets competitive as students sort and categorize words in this friendly “bump” game.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Literacy-Centers-Activities-for-1st-Grade-Turkey-Reading-Games-8724917?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=1st%20Grade%20Thanksgiving%20Reading%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="512" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-3-1024x512.png" alt="Thanksgiving literacy game for 1st grade titled Baked Potato Bump where students sort and categorize words to build vocabulary during reading centers." class="wp-image-46484" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-3-1024x512.png 1024w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-3-300x150.png 300w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-3-768x384.png 768w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-3-1536x768.png 1536w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-3-2048x1024.png 2048w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-3-75x38.png 75w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-3-100x50.png 100w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-3-125x63.png 125w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-3-600x300.png 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">All five games include color and blackline versions, Thanksgiving-themed counters, and easy-to-follow directions — so your centers practically run themselves.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f342.png" alt="🍂" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Why These Thanksgiving Reading Games Are a 1st Grade Must-Have</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Teachers tell me over and over that these <strong>Thanksgiving literacy centers</strong> save their sanity every November. They’re meaningful, independent, and actually reinforce the reading standards you’re already teaching.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Because students can play alone or with a partner, you can use them during literacy rotations, small groups, or intervention time without constant interruptions. And since they align to <strong>CCSS and TEKS</strong>, you can feel confident that every minute spent playing is a minute of real learning.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">These <strong>Thanksgiving activities</strong> also make fantastic sub plans or early finisher tasks — no extra prep, no stress. Just print, laminate, and go!</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f49b.png" alt="💛" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Teacher-Tested, Student-Approved</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If your 1st graders need meaningful literacy practice and you need a few peaceful moments to regroup, these Thanksgiving literacy centers are your new best friend. They’re festive, skill-based, and designed by a teacher who gets it.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Let’s be honest — once November hits, every teacher starts to feel it. Between progress reports, conferences, and the pre-holiday buzz creeping into every corner of your classroom, the days feel a little <em>extra.</em> That’s exactly when my Thanksgiving math activities for 1st grade swoop in to save the day — low-prep, hands-on games that keep your students learning and you sane.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">These <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Math-Activities-1st-Grade-Printable-Turkey-Math-Games-Centers-6237855?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=1st%20Grade%20Thanksgiving%20Math%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Thanksgiving Math Activities for 1st Grade</a> are a set of ready-to-go math games that <strong>keep my students learning independently while I work with small groups or finish up assessments</strong>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">These aren’t just worksheets with a holiday twist.<br>They’re hands-on math games that <strong>build real skills in number sense, place value, and comparing numbers</strong> — and the best part? They’re <em>low prep and student-ready</em>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Here’s a peek inside my favorite Thanksgiving math centers for first grade (and how I use them in my classroom).</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f983.png" alt="🦃" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Gobblin’ More or Less</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When it comes to November math, this one’s always a favorite.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Gobblin’ More or Less</strong> focuses on mental math and number sense — students work on finding one more and one less (or ten more and ten less for an extra challenge). The two color-coded versions make differentiation a breeze.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Students roll, move, and cover numbers as they add or subtract. I love pairing this with a hundreds chart for extra support, especially for students who are still visualizing those number relationships.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Math-Activities-1st-Grade-Printable-Turkey-Math-Games-Centers-6237855?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=1st%20Grade%20Thanksgiving%20Math%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="512" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-4-1024x512.png" alt="Thanksgiving math activities for 1st grade called Gobblin’ More or Less. Students practice one more, one less, and ten more or less using colorful number mats for independent math center work." class="wp-image-46467" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-4-1024x512.png 1024w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-4-300x150.png 300w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-4-768x384.png 768w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-4-1536x768.png 1536w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-4-2048x1024.png 2048w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-4-75x38.png 75w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-4-100x50.png 100w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-4-125x63.png 125w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-4-600x300.png 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It’s quick, quiet, and gives students meaningful practice with a skill they’ll use all year long. Plus, all you need is the game board, a die, and some counters — no cutting, laminating marathon, or fancy materials required.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f3b2.png" alt="🎲" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Rolling to 100 (or 50!)</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you’ve ever had a group of first graders who <em>just can’t get enough dice</em>, this is your game.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Rolling to 100 (or Rolling to 50 for a shorter version) helps students work on number bonds and addition strategies. As they roll and move across the chart, they build combinations that make a given total.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Math-Activities-1st-Grade-Printable-Turkey-Math-Games-Centers-6237855?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=1st%20Grade%20Thanksgiving%20Math%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="512" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-3-1024x512.png" alt="Rolling to 100 Thanksgiving math game for 1st grade. Students roll dice to create number bonds, add numbers, and race to 50 or 100. Great for practicing addition and number relationships in centers." class="wp-image-46468" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-3-1024x512.png 1024w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-3-300x150.png 300w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-3-768x384.png 768w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-3-1536x768.png 1536w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-3-2048x1024.png 2048w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-3-75x38.png 75w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-3-100x50.png 100w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-3-125x63.png 125w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-3-600x300.png 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The best part is how easily this game differentiates. Some cards ask students to solve for a missing addend instead of just adding two numbers — so everyone’s challenged at their own level.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It’s a sneaky way to reinforce fact fluency and number relationships while students think they’re just having fun rolling dice.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f37d.png" alt="🍽" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Dinner Dash</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Oh, Dinner Dash — this one is always a hit with my students.<br>In this Thanksgiving-themed game, students roll the die to get a prompt like “greater than 50” or “less than 25.” Then, they race to find numbers on their mats that match the prompt.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Math-Activities-1st-Grade-Printable-Turkey-Math-Games-Centers-6237855?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=1st%20Grade%20Thanksgiving%20Math%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="512" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/3-3-1024x512.png" alt="Thanksgiving math activity for 1st grade where students compare numbers using greater than and less than prompts. Dinner Dash helps build number sense and strategic thinking through gameplay." class="wp-image-46469" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/3-3-1024x512.png 1024w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/3-3-300x150.png 300w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/3-3-768x384.png 768w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/3-3-1536x768.png 1536w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/3-3-2048x1024.png 2048w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/3-3-75x38.png 75w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/3-3-100x50.png 100w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/3-3-125x63.png 125w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/3-3-600x300.png 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It’s quick-moving and filled with strategy because there’s often more than one correct choice. Students have to <em>think ahead</em> — which number will give them the best shot at getting four in a row?</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">That kind of thinking goes beyond rote practice and into real mathematical reasoning. And the best part? Kids love it. The laughter, the “Wait, I can block you!” moments — it’s joyful learning disguised as play.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f414.png" alt="🐔" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Turkey Trot</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you teach place value, this one is going to make your teacher heart happy.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Turkey Trot is a hands-on, concrete place value game where students draw two number cards, decide which is the tens and which is the ones, and then build that number using base ten blocks.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Once both players have built their numbers, they compare to see whose is greater — the winner moves one space closer to the finish line.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Math-Activities-1st-Grade-Printable-Turkey-Math-Games-Centers-6237855?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=1st%20Grade%20Thanksgiving%20Math%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="512" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-2-1024x512.png" alt="Turkey Trot Thanksgiving math game for 1st grade focused on place value. Students draw number cards, build numbers with base-ten blocks, and compare which value is greater to move along the game board." class="wp-image-46470" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-2-1024x512.png 1024w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-2-300x150.png 300w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-2-768x384.png 768w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-2-1536x768.png 1536w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-2-2048x1024.png 2048w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-2-75x38.png 75w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-2-100x50.png 100w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-2-125x63.png 125w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-2-600x300.png 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It’s a simple routine that gives <em>tons</em> of repetition with building and comparing numbers. I love using this one for students who need more visual support because it connects the abstract symbols to physical models every single turn.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f967.png" alt="🥧" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Ordering Pie</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This might be my favorite of the bunch because it’s such a good blend of <strong>strategy, critical thinking, and fun.</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In Ordering Pie, students draw two number cards and use them to create a two-digit number. They can choose which order to place the digits in — for example, a 3 and a 5 can become 35 or 53.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Then comes the strategy: where should they place that number on the mat? If they’re playing the “least to greatest” version, do they think this will end up being their smallest number or something in the middle?</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Math-Activities-1st-Grade-Printable-Turkey-Math-Games-Centers-6237855?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=1st%20Grade%20Thanksgiving%20Math%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="512" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-2-1024x512.png" alt="Ordering Pie Thanksgiving math center for 1st grade. Students form and order two-digit numbers from least to greatest or greatest to least, building critical thinking and number sequencing skills." class="wp-image-46471" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-2-1024x512.png 1024w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-2-300x150.png 300w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-2-768x384.png 768w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-2-1536x768.png 1536w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-2-2048x1024.png 2048w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-2-75x38.png 75w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-2-100x50.png 100w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-2-125x63.png 125w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-2-600x300.png 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It’s amazing how much thinking happens as students weigh their options and try to complete the full sequence without making a mistake.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f341.png" alt="🍁" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> How I Use These Thanksgiving Math activities for 1st grade in My Classroom</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When I first introduce these games, I always model them with my class before they head to centers.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I pull up the game on my document camera and play a quick “class vs. teacher” round. It takes less than ten minutes but gives everyone a clear visual of how the game works — and adds a little friendly competition!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Once they’ve seen it played, students are ready to go. That’s what I love about this resource — the games are truly independent Thanksgiving math activities for 1st grade.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">No constant teacher check-ins, no “I don’t get it” interruptions. Students know what to do, can play successfully with partners, and stay engaged while I pull small groups.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It’s everything a teacher dreams of in November — fun, meaningful, and quiet.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f4a1.png" alt="💡" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Why Teachers Love These Thanksgiving Math activities for 1st grade</h2>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>No prep:</strong> Just print and play — no cutting required!</li>

<li><strong>Differentiation built in:</strong> Options for one more/ten more, 50 or 100, and ordering from least to greatest or vice versa.</li>

<li><strong>Skill reinforcement:</strong> Practice with number sense, place value, comparing numbers, and addition strategies.</li>

<li><strong>Student independence:</strong> Once introduced, students can play on their own — perfect for centers or early finishers.</li>
</ul>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f9e1.png" alt="🧡" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Make Math Magical This November</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you’re ready for Thanksgiving math activities for 1st grade that are fun, purposeful, and <em>actually easy to prep</em>, these games are the perfect fit.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Math-Activities-1st-Grade-Printable-Turkey-Math-Games-Centers-6237855?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=1st%20Grade%20Thanksgiving%20Math%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="512" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/6-2-1024x512.png" alt="Call-to-action image inviting teachers to download Thanksgiving math activities for 1st grade. <p class="wp-block-paragraph">November in the classroom has a very specific kind of energy, doesn’t it? You’ve made it through the start of the year, your routines are rolling, but your energy tank? It’s starting to flicker. That’s exactly why I rely on <em>no-prep Thanksgiving activities for Kindergarten</em> during this time — between conferences, report cards, and the sugar-fueled excitement for Thanksgiving break, it can start to feel like pure survival mode.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone — and that’s exactly why I created my <strong><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Activities-for-Kindergarten-1st-Grade-Math-Writing-Crafts-1534801?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=Thanksgiving%20Activities%20Pack%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Thanksgiving Activities Pack for Kindergarten</a></strong>. It’s a <em>no-prep</em>, print-and-go resource packed with math, literacy, writing, and craft activities that will keep your students learning, engaged, and smiling… while you get to take a deep breath and maybe even finish that cup of coffee while it’s still warm.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Why Teachers Love No-Prep Thanksgiving Activities for kindergarten</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Let’s be real: November isn’t the time for laminating marathons or cutting out 50 game pieces.<br>Teachers need something simple, meaningful, and ready <em>right now.</em></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">That’s what these<strong> </strong>Thanksgiving activities for kindergarten delivers.<br>Every page is ready to print and use — no color ink required unless you want it, no hours of prep time, and no confusing directions for students. Just easy-to-implement activities that reinforce key Kindergarten skills in fun, seasonal ways.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It’s also flexible enough for <strong>early finishers, centers, morning tubs, or sub plans</strong> — basically, any of those “we have 12 minutes before lunch” moments that can make or break your day. These activities fill those little time gaps while keeping learning purposeful (and behavior in check).</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Literacy Activities That Are Actually Engaging</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When I think about November literacy time, I want my students reading, writing, and thinking — but I also want <em>independence</em>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The <strong>literacy activities</strong> in this pack do just that. You’ll find:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Letter hunts</strong> that build letter recognition and focus</li>

<li><strong>Beginning sound pages</strong> for phonemic awareness</li>

<li><strong>Alphabet sequencing practice</strong> with “What’s Missing?” pages</li>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">These activities are perfect for kindergarten students in small groups or independent centers because they don’t require much (if any) teacher direction. You can use them to review letters and sounds or to give students meaningful work when they finish other tasks early.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And let’s be honest — who doesn’t love a good color-by-sight-word page? My students think it’s “just coloring,” but I know they’re building automaticity with high-frequency words at the same time. Win-win.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-resized"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Activities-for-Kindergarten-1st-Grade-Math-Writing-Crafts-1534801?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=Thanksgiving%20Activities%20Pack%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Thanksgiving-No-Prep-Pack-Kindergarten-08-1024x683.jpg" alt="Thanksgiving color-by-sight-word activity for Kindergarten featuring a smiling pie and fork. <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Writing About What Matters Most: Family, Gratitude, and Fun</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The <strong>writing component</strong> of this Thanksgiving packet is one of my favorite parts.<br>Each prompt invites students to write about something personal and meaningful — like:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>What they’re thankful for</li>

<li>Their favorite Thanksgiving food</li>

<li>A fun fall activity</li>

<li>Something they love doing with their family</li>
</ul>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-resized"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Activities-for-Kindergarten-1st-Grade-Math-Writing-Crafts-1534801?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=Thanksgiving%20Activities%20Pack%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Thanksgiving-No-Prep-Pack-Kindergarten-04-1024x683.jpg" alt="Kindergarten Thanksgiving writing prompt page asking students to list three things they are thankful for. A colorful example shows a student’s drawing and sentence writing practice." class="wp-image-46455" style="width:591px;height:auto" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Thanksgiving-No-Prep-Pack-Kindergarten-04-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Thanksgiving-No-Prep-Pack-Kindergarten-04-300x200.jpg 300w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Thanksgiving-No-Prep-Pack-Kindergarten-04-768x512.jpg 768w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Thanksgiving-No-Prep-Pack-Kindergarten-04-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Thanksgiving-No-Prep-Pack-Kindergarten-04-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Thanksgiving-No-Prep-Pack-Kindergarten-04-1200x800.jpg 1200w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Thanksgiving-No-Prep-Pack-Kindergarten-04-75x50.jpg 75w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Thanksgiving-No-Prep-Pack-Kindergarten-04-100x67.jpg 100w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Thanksgiving-No-Prep-Pack-Kindergarten-04-125x83.jpg 125w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Thanksgiving-No-Prep-Pack-Kindergarten-04-600x400.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This type of writing connects so beautifully to early childhood development. Young learners are naturally egocentric — they love writing about themselves! These prompts tap into that developmental stage while building writing stamina, vocabulary, and phonics awareness.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">To make it even easier to differentiate, each writing page comes <strong>with or without sentence starters</strong>. I typically give my developing writers the sentence starter version, while more advanced writers get the blank lines to create their own sentences.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Pair these with the Thanksgiving word wall posters included in the pack, and you’ve got an instant mini-writing center ready to go. I like to print one set to hang on our writing wall and another set to keep at each table for quick reference.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Math Activities That Make Sense (and Require No Prep)</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Math is another area where this Thanksgiving activity pack shines.<br>You’ll find everything from counting and number order to patterning and ten frames — all designed to reinforce foundational number sense skills in a fun, seasonal way.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-resized"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Activities-for-Kindergarten-1st-Grade-Math-Writing-Crafts-1534801?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=Thanksgiving%20Activities%20Pack%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Thanksgiving-No-Prep-Pack-Kindergarten-05-1024x683.jpg" alt="Fall-themed Kindergarten math worksheet titled “Fall in Line.” Students fill in missing numbers on leaves for number sequencing and counting practice." class="wp-image-46456" style="width:613px;height:auto" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Thanksgiving-No-Prep-Pack-Kindergarten-05-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Thanksgiving-No-Prep-Pack-Kindergarten-05-300x200.jpg 300w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Thanksgiving-No-Prep-Pack-Kindergarten-05-768x512.jpg 768w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Thanksgiving-No-Prep-Pack-Kindergarten-05-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Thanksgiving-No-Prep-Pack-Kindergarten-05-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Thanksgiving-No-Prep-Pack-Kindergarten-05-1200x800.jpg 1200w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Thanksgiving-No-Prep-Pack-Kindergarten-05-75x50.jpg 75w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Thanksgiving-No-Prep-Pack-Kindergarten-05-100x67.jpg 100w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Thanksgiving-No-Prep-Pack-Kindergarten-05-125x83.jpg 125w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Thanksgiving-No-Prep-Pack-Kindergarten-05-600x400.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Here’s a peek at what’s included:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>“Fall in Line”</strong>: fill in the missing numbers for sequencing practice</li>

<li><strong>“Thankful Patterns”</strong>: extend shape and picture patterns</li>

<li><strong>Counting to 20</strong>: build one-to-one correspondence with engaging visuals</li>

<li><strong>10-Frame Puzzles</strong>: a hands-on favorite that practices subitizing, number recognition, and counting</li>
</ul>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-resized"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Activities-for-Kindergarten-1st-Grade-Math-Writing-Crafts-1534801?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=Thanksgiving%20Activities%20Pack%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Thanksgiving-No-Prep-Pack-Kindergarten-01-1024x683.jpg" alt="Thanksgiving 10-frame math puzzles for Kindergarten students featuring pumpkins, acorns, and turkeys. <p class="wp-block-paragraph">I use the <strong>10-frame puzzles</strong> as a grab-and-go early finisher activity. Students can grab a bag, work independently or with a partner, and then record their answers on the included sheet. It’s quick, quiet, and keeps those early finishers focused while others finish up their work.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There’s also an adorable <strong>turkey counting craft</strong> that sneaks in fine motor practice and number matching. My kids love seeing their turkeys “come to life” as they glue on the feathers that match each number.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-resized"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Activities-for-Kindergarten-1st-Grade-Math-Writing-Crafts-1534801?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=Thanksgiving%20Activities%20Pack%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Thanksgiving-No-Prep-Pack-Kindergarten-02-1024x683.jpg" alt="Thanksgiving turkey counting craft for Kindergarten math centers. <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Perfect Finishing Touch: Flint Corn Craftivity</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Every classroom needs a little display-worthy moment in November, right?<br>The <strong>Flint Corn craftivity</strong> is the perfect way to tie everything together — literacy, fine motor, and social-emotional learning.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Students write what they’re thankful for on each corn cob, decorate the kernels with tissue paper, and assemble a beautiful piece that can be turned into a class bulletin board titled <em>“We’re Thankful For…”</em></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It’s meaningful, adorable, and doesn’t require you to spend your weekend cutting out 25 turkey bodies. (You’re welcome.)</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Make This November a Little Easier</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you’re looking for <strong>Thanksgiving activities for Kindergarten</strong> that:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Require <em>zero prep time</em></li>

<li>Keep students engaged and learning</li>

<li>Reinforce essential math, literacy, and writing skills</li>

<li>Help maintain classroom calm in the chaos of November</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">…then this Thanksgiving Activities Pack is exactly what you need.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When November rolls around, the energy in the classroom shifts. You can <em>feel</em> the excitement of the holidays coming — the whispers about Thanksgiving feasts, family trips, and time off school. But if you teach 2nd grade, you also know that keeping students focused during this time can feel like trying to herd a bunch of turkeys across the playground. <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f983.png" alt="🦃" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">That’s exactly why I love pulling out Thanksgiving math games that make learning fun while still hitting key standards. These hands-on, seasonal Thanksgiving math centers turn the pre-holiday chaos into meaningful engagement. My students stay busy, they’re practicing core math skills, and they don’t even realize how much learning they’re doing.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In today’s post, I’m sharing my favorite <strong><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Math-Games-2nd-Grade-Math-Center-Games-No-Prep-Turkey-Math-6201668?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=2nd%20Grade%20Thanksgiving%20Math%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Thanksgiving math activities for 2nd grade</a></strong> — all designed to reinforce number sense, addition, subtraction, and fractions through play.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>1. Cranberry Bingo: Building Place Value Confidence</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Place value is one of those foundational skills that can feel dry when taught through a worksheet. But turn it into a <strong>Thanksgiving-themed bingo game</strong>, and suddenly every student wants to play!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In <strong>Cranberry Bingo</strong>, students identify numbers represented in expanded form, base-ten models, and word form — helping them connect different representations of numbers up to 1,000.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Math-Games-2nd-Grade-Math-Center-Games-No-Prep-Turkey-Math-6201668?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=2nd%20Grade%20Thanksgiving%20Math%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="512" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-3-1024x512.png" alt="Cranberry Bingo Thanksgiving math game for 2nd grade students practicing place value to 1,000 using base-ten blocks, word form, and expanded form." class="wp-image-46431" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-3-1024x512.png 1024w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-3-300x150.png 300w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-3-768x384.png 768w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-3-1536x768.png 1536w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-3-2048x1024.png 2048w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-3-75x38.png 75w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-3-100x50.png 100w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-3-125x63.png 125w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-3-600x300.png 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It’s perfect for small groups or independent centers. I love using mini erasers as markers (Target Dollar Spot, anyone?). By the end of the game, even your reluctant learners are confidently reading and building four-digit numbers.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>2. Fraction Feast: Exploring Parts of a Whole</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you’ve ever introduced fractions right before Thanksgiving break, you know the struggle is real. That’s why I created <strong>Fraction Feast</strong> — a festive way for students to practice identifying fractional parts using food-themed visuals.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Students draw cards showing shaded parts of pies and identify fractions like ½, ¼, and ¾ on their bingo mats. They can play independently or with partners, and you’ll love watching those “aha!” moments as the concept clicks.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Math-Games-2nd-Grade-Math-Center-Games-No-Prep-Turkey-Math-6201668?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=2nd%20Grade%20Thanksgiving%20Math%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="512" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-2-1024x512.png" alt="Fraction Feast Thanksgiving math activity for 2nd grade that helps students identify and match fractional parts using food-themed visuals and hands-on play." class="wp-image-46432" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-2-1024x512.png 1024w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-2-300x150.png 300w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-2-768x384.png 768w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-2-1536x768.png 1536w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-2-2048x1024.png 2048w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-2-75x38.png 75w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-2-100x50.png 100w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-2-125x63.png 125w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-2-600x300.png 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This game is a great way to reinforce <strong>2.G.A.3</strong> and <strong>MA.2.3.C</strong>, helping students connect concrete visuals with the mathematical language of fractions.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>3. Adding with Turkey Tens: Mastering the Make-a-Ten Strategy</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Adding within 100 is a major focus for 2nd graders, and it’s easy for students to rely on counting instead of developing flexible strategies.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">That’s where <strong>Adding with Turkey Tens</strong> comes in! Students roll dice, move around a Thanksgiving-themed track, and use the <strong>make-a-ten</strong> strategy to complete equations. The game includes multiple levels (+8, +9, and mixed), making it perfect for differentiation.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Math-Games-2nd-Grade-Math-Center-Games-No-Prep-Turkey-Math-6201668?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=2nd%20Grade%20Thanksgiving%20Math%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="512" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/3-2-1024x512.png" alt="Adding with Turkey Tens Thanksgiving math center for 2nd grade that strengthens addition fluency through the make-a-ten strategy with differentiated levels." class="wp-image-46433" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/3-2-1024x512.png 1024w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/3-2-300x150.png 300w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/3-2-768x384.png 768w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/3-2-1536x768.png 1536w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/3-2-2048x1024.png 2048w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/3-2-75x38.png 75w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/3-2-100x50.png 100w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/3-2-125x63.png 125w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/3-2-600x300.png 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Whether your students need extra support or crave a challenge, this center builds automaticity in a way that feels like play — not drill.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>4. Sweet Subtraction: Subtracting with and Without Regrouping</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Subtraction can be one of the trickiest concepts to solidify in 2nd grade. So rather than sending students home frustrated, I turn it into a hands-on <strong>Thanksgiving subtraction game</strong> they actually look forward to!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In <strong>Sweet Subtraction</strong>, students use spinners to create equations, record their work, and cover answers on their game board. The variety of cards (some requiring regrouping and others not) lets you differentiate easily.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Math-Games-2nd-Grade-Math-Center-Games-No-Prep-Turkey-Math-6201668?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=2nd%20Grade%20Thanksgiving%20Math%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="512" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-1-1024x512.png" alt="Sweet Subtraction Thanksgiving math game for 2nd grade using spinners and number grids to practice subtraction with and without regrouping." class="wp-image-46434" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-1-1024x512.png 1024w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-1-300x150.png 300w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-1-768x384.png 768w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-1-1536x768.png 1536w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-1-2048x1024.png 2048w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-1-75x38.png 75w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-1-100x50.png 100w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-1-125x63.png 125w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-1-600x300.png 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">By pairing the game with mini whiteboards or laminated recording sheets, you can also sneak in quick formative checks during centers — all while students think they’re just having fun.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>5. Harvesting 100: Strategic Thinking Meets Friendly Competition</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The last game in the set, <strong>Harvesting 100</strong>, is a fan favorite. Players draw four cards and try to arrange them to create a sum as close to 100 as possible. It’s a fun mix of strategy, estimation, and addition fluency — and it gets LOUD (in the best way)!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This activity builds critical thinking and collaboration as students discuss which combinations will bring them closer to the goal. You’ll hear math talk everywhere — and you’ll know it’s the kind of chatter that leads to growth.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you’re like most K–2 teachers, November can feel like a sprint. Between assessments, conferences, and classroom celebrations, finding a meaningful yet low-prep Thanksgiving activity can feel impossible. That’s where a <strong>Thanksgiving turkey craft</strong> that integrates math, writing, and reading skills comes in!</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Why a Turkey Glyph is More Than Just a Craft</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A <strong>turkey glyph</strong> is a creative twist on the traditional Thanksgiving turkey craft. Students follow a series of fun questions (“What’s your favorite Thanksgiving food?” or “Do you like to travel or stay home for the holiday?”) and use their answers to design a turkey that represents them.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Each feather tells a story—literally! Students are graphing data, practicing comprehension, and strengthening writing skills without even realizing it.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This kind of <strong>cross-curricular Thanksgiving activity</strong> gives your students ownership of their learning while filling your bulletin boards with colorful, personalized turkeys that showcase individuality and academic progress.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Thanksgiving-Turkey-Craft-Math-Craft-Writing-Kindergarten-1st-and-2nd-5009437?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=Thanksgiving%20Turkey%20Craft%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="768" height="1024" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/808AED22-2CBF-4972-BE6F-CA7D03EB44E8-768x1024.png" alt="Finished Thanksgiving turkey crafts displayed on classroom bulletin board; students’ turkey glyphs show data through colors and writing pieces; perfect low-prep Thanksgiving activity for Kindergarten through 2nd grade." class="wp-image-46421" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/808AED22-2CBF-4972-BE6F-CA7D03EB44E8-768x1024.png 768w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/808AED22-2CBF-4972-BE6F-CA7D03EB44E8-225x300.png 225w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/808AED22-2CBF-4972-BE6F-CA7D03EB44E8-1151x1536.png 1151w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/808AED22-2CBF-4972-BE6F-CA7D03EB44E8-1535x2048.png 1535w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/808AED22-2CBF-4972-BE6F-CA7D03EB44E8-56x75.png 56w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/808AED22-2CBF-4972-BE6F-CA7D03EB44E8-75x100.png 75w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/808AED22-2CBF-4972-BE6F-CA7D03EB44E8-94x125.png 94w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/808AED22-2CBF-4972-BE6F-CA7D03EB44E8-600x800.png 600w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/808AED22-2CBF-4972-BE6F-CA7D03EB44E8-scaled.png 1919w" sizes="(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></a></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">The Perfect Blend of Standards &amp; Fun</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When I first introduced this turkey craft in my kindergarten classroom, I wanted something that wasn’t just “cute for the hallway.” I needed an <strong>activity that aligned with standards</strong> and reinforced the literacy and math skills we’d been practicing all fall.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Here’s what makes this turkey craft stand out:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Math Practice:</strong> Students analyze and graph class data from their glyphs.</li>

<li><strong>Writing Practice:</strong> They complete writing prompts about what they’re thankful for or what makes their turkey unique.</li>

<li><strong>Reading &amp; Comprehension:</strong> The student-friendly directions make it easy for young learners to follow along, building independence.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">By combining multiple subjects, this Thanksgiving craft saves time while maximizing learning.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Low-Prep &amp; Classroom Ready</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Teachers love that this <strong>Thanksgiving turkey craft</strong> is completely <strong>print-and-go</strong>. The templates can be printed on white or colored paper, and the directions are simple enough for even your youngest learners to follow.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">All you’ll need are a few basic supplies—paper, crayons, and scissors—to bring the activity to life. Plus, the glyph printables and graphing pages make it easy to extend learning across multiple days if you’d like to turn it into a mini-unit.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Thanksgiving season in kindergarten means excitement, gratitude, and… let’s be honest — a little bit of wiggle energy! <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f342.png" alt="🍂" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> So instead of fighting it, why not channel all that enthusiasm into fun, meaningful <strong>Thanksgiving reading games</strong> that build early literacy skills?</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">These <strong>Thanksgiving reading centers</strong> are designed with a purpose: to make learning hands-on, standards-aligned, and joyful. Whether you’re looking for small-group literacy activities or independent centers that your students can truly <em>do on their own</em>, this set of five Thanksgiving-themed games will keep your kinders engaged and learning all month long.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Let’s peek inside each one and explore how they reinforce critical phonological awareness, phonics, and high-frequency word skills.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f983.png" alt="🦃" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Bountiful Beginning Sounds</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If your students are still mastering the art of hearing initial sounds, this center is a feast for their phonemic-awareness brains!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In <strong>Bountiful Beginning Sounds</strong>, students spin a letter and move their game piece along a colorful path, identifying pictures that begin with the same sound. It’s the perfect way to strengthen the connection between letters and sounds — all while practicing turn-taking and listening skills.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Kindergarten-Thanksgiving-Literacy-Centers-Activities-Turkey-Reading-Games-6226122?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=Kindergarten%20Thanksgiving%20Reading%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="512" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-1024x512.png" alt="A Thanksgiving-themed kindergarten reading center where students spin, say, and move along a colorful game board to match beginning sounds. This fun phonemic awareness activity helps children connect letters to sounds while staying engaged." class="wp-image-46404" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-1024x512.png 1024w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-300x150.png 300w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-768x384.png 768w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-1536x768.png 1536w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-2048x1024.png 2048w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-75x38.png 75w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-100x50.png 100w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-125x63.png 125w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1-600x300.png 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Teacher Tip:</strong> Print the mats on cardstock and laminate them so you can reuse them all November long. I like to model the first round in small group, then let students play independently as a literacy center later in the week.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f967.png" alt="🥧" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Word Family Feast</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Next up is <strong>Word Family Feast</strong>, a delicious way to reinforce patterns in words. Students roll a die, move around the game board, and sort picture words into the correct “word family table” — think <em>-ag</em>, <em>-et</em>, <em>-ig</em>, <em>-op</em>, and <em>-un.</em></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">They love seeing each table “fill up” as they collect words, and you’ll love the built-in practice of blending onsets and rimes.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Kindergarten-Thanksgiving-Literacy-Centers-Activities-Turkey-Reading-Games-6226122?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=Kindergarten%20Thanksgiving%20Reading%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="2500" height="1250" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-1024x512.png" alt="A festive Thanksgiving literacy game for kindergarten where students sort and read rhyming words to build word family knowledge. The game reinforces blending and decoding CVC words in a playful, hands-on way." class="wp-image-46405" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-1024x512.png 1024w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-300x150.png 300w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-768x384.png 768w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-1536x768.png 1536w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-2048x1024.png 2048w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-75x38.png 75w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-100x50.png 100w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-125x63.png 125w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2-600x300.png 600w" sizes="(max-width: 2500px) 100vw, 2500px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Helpful Tip:</strong> This center works beautifully for <strong>differentiation</strong>. Some groups can focus on just one board of word families (one vowel), while others can handle all five. Pair this with magnetic letters for an added tactile experience!</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f37d.png" alt="🍽" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Stirring Up Blends</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Once your kinders are confident with CVC words, they’re ready for the next step — <strong>blends!</strong> While not all of your students may be ready for this game, you definitely have a group who is!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Stirring Up Blends</strong> gives students plenty of opportunities to practice reading words with consonant blends like <em>bl</em>, <em>tr</em>, <em>sm</em>, and <em>pl.</em> Players roll, read, and cover the words in each column. The repetition helps build automaticity, and the game format keeps practice engaging instead of monotonous.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Kindergarten-Thanksgiving-Literacy-Centers-Activities-Turkey-Reading-Games-6226122?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=Kindergarten%20Thanksgiving%20Reading%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="512" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Kindergarten-Thanksgiving-Reading-Centers-1024x512.png" alt="A Thanksgiving reading activity designed to help kindergarten students practice consonant blends. Children roll, read, and cover words with blends like bl, tr, and sm to strengthen decoding and fluency skills." class="wp-image-46407" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Kindergarten-Thanksgiving-Reading-Centers-1024x512.png 1024w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Kindergarten-Thanksgiving-Reading-Centers-300x150.png 300w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Kindergarten-Thanksgiving-Reading-Centers-768x384.png 768w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Kindergarten-Thanksgiving-Reading-Centers-1536x768.png 1536w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Kindergarten-Thanksgiving-Reading-Centers-2048x1024.png 2048w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Kindergarten-Thanksgiving-Reading-Centers-75x38.png 75w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Kindergarten-Thanksgiving-Reading-Centers-100x50.png 100w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Kindergarten-Thanksgiving-Reading-Centers-125x63.png 125w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Kindergarten-Thanksgiving-Reading-Centers-600x300.png 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This is also a great time to focus on articulation — students can say each word slowly, emphasizing the blend, to build both decoding and oral language skills.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f944.png" alt="🥄" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Stuffing Syllables</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This one might just be the crowd favorite. <strong>Stuffing Syllables</strong> turns syllable counting into a hands-on, laugh-out-loud game that feels more like play than practice.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Students roll a die, read a picture word (like <em>cranberry</em>, <em>pumpkin</em>, or <em>silverware</em>), and build a tower of connecting cubes to match the number of syllables.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You’ll see little hands clapping, tapping, and stacking — and lots of giggles as they figure out just how many syllables <em>tur-key-din-ner</em> really is!</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Kindergarten-Thanksgiving-Literacy-Centers-Activities-Turkey-Reading-Games-6226122?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=Kindergarten%20Thanksgiving%20Reading%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="512" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-1024x512.png" alt="A colorful Thanksgiving reading game where kindergarten students clap, tap, and stack cubes to count syllables in themed words like “pumpkin,” “cranberry,” and “turkey.” Builds phonological awareness in a fun, interactive way." class="wp-image-46408" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-1024x512.png 1024w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-300x150.png 300w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-768x384.png 768w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-1536x768.png 1536w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-2048x1024.png 2048w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-75x38.png 75w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-100x50.png 100w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-125x63.png 125w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/4-600x300.png 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Teacher Tip:</strong> Syllable games like this build phonological awareness, a foundational skill that sets students up for success in decoding and spelling. You can also reuse this format throughout the year with seasonal vocabulary words.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f989.png" alt="🦉" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Sweet Sight Words</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">No literacy center collection is complete without some sight word fun!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Sweet Sight Words</strong> takes the classic game of Bingo and gives it a Thanksgiving twist. You can easily customize it by typing in your own sight words (or letters, if you’re working on alphabet recognition).</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Kindergarten-Thanksgiving-Literacy-Centers-Activities-Turkey-Reading-Games-6226122?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=Kindergarten%20Thanksgiving%20Reading%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="512" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-1024x512.png" alt="An editable Thanksgiving sight word bingo game for kindergarten. Students listen for words, mark their boards, and celebrate with seasonal flair while practicing high-frequency word recognition." class="wp-image-46409" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-1024x512.png 1024w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-300x150.png 300w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-768x384.png 768w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-1536x768.png 1536w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-2048x1024.png 2048w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-75x38.png 75w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-100x50.png 100w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-125x63.png 125w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/5-600x300.png 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Play it whole group or let students run it independently in small groups — just toss the calling cards into a bowl, and you’re set! The editable feature means you can revisit this center all year long, swapping in new high-frequency words as your students grow.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Making Thanksgiving Literacy Centers Work for You</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As a teacher, you know the days leading up to Thanksgiving break can be wild. That’s why having <strong>low-prep, high-engagement reading activities</strong> is a must. These games are easy to set up (just print, laminate, and add counters or cubes), and once introduced, your students can play with minimal support.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">They’re also perfect for small-group rotations, early finishers, or even literacy center “choice boards.” I like to introduce one new game each day, then offer all five as options by the end of the week. It gives students ownership and keeps the centers fresh and exciting.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Bonus Tip:</strong> If you use decodable readers during your small groups, pair them with the related phonics skill from one of these centers. For example, <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Beginning-Blends-L-S-and-R-Decodable-Readers-Lesson-Plans-BUNDLE-8942901?utm_source=T3%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=Kindergarten%20Thanksgiving%20Reading%20Games%20Post" target="_blank" rel="noopener">after reading a book with <em>bl</em> and <em>pl</em> blends</a>, have students head to <em>Stirring Up Blends</em> for reinforcement. This creates a seamless connection between instruction and practice — a key principle of the Science of Reading.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Keep the Fun (and Learning!) Flowing</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Your students will think they’re just playing games — but you’ll know they’re building the foundational literacy skills that matter most.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Last week I shared <a href="https://theteachingtexan.com/2019/11/04/5-ways-hoopla-makes-lesson-plans-a-cinch/">5 ways that hoopla digital makes lesson planning for STEAM so much easier</a>. If you missed that post, I highly recommend reading it FIRST, then returning to this post. Don&#8217;t worry &#8211; I linked this post for you at the end of the previous post so you can find your way back!</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Now that you know WHY <a href="http://hoopladigital.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hoopla digital</a> makes lesson planning easier, I want to show you HOW to use it!</h4>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="414" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Screen-Shot-2019-11-13-at-8.31.10-AM-e1573655609287-1024x414.png" alt="" class="wp-image-8560" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Screen-Shot-2019-11-13-at-8.31.10-AM-e1573655609287-1024x414.png 1024w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Screen-Shot-2019-11-13-at-8.31.10-AM-e1573655609287-600x243.png 600w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Screen-Shot-2019-11-13-at-8.31.10-AM-e1573655609287-300x121.png 300w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Screen-Shot-2019-11-13-at-8.31.10-AM-e1573655609287-768x311.png 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">First off, searching for resources is SO EASY. You literally type in the title you are looking for into the search bar at the top and hit search. You can even specify if you would like to find an eBook, audiobook, movie, or more. Once you find what you&#8217;re looking for, you simply &#8220;borrow&#8221; it and everything you check out is stored in a digital library right on <a href="http://hoopladigital.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hoopla digital</a> so you can easily access it. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="585" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Screen-Shot-2019-11-13-at-8.34.24-AM-1024x585.png" alt="" class="wp-image-8562" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Screen-Shot-2019-11-13-at-8.34.24-AM-1024x585.png 1024w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Screen-Shot-2019-11-13-at-8.34.24-AM-600x343.png 600w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Screen-Shot-2019-11-13-at-8.34.24-AM-300x172.png 300w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Screen-Shot-2019-11-13-at-8.34.24-AM-768x439.png 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I&#8217;ve seriously been in awe at the wide array of resources that are available on hoopla. I&#8217;ve searched and searched for all sorts of titles for all kinds of lesson ideas, and guess what? I can always find exactly what I&#8217;m looking for!</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">How does hoopla digital increase student engagement?</h4>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So, let me tell you friends, the benefits don&#8217;t stop with my experience with hoopla. Student engagement is where it&#8217;s at! I love that <a href="http://hoopladigital.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hoopla digital</a> offers the ability to project a book, making it large enough for students to see and follow along. Anytime I&#8217;m able to make things larger and easier for students to see, I immediately see an increase in engagement. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I also love that if students have different interests on a particular topic (<em>and don&#8217;t they always</em>) that you can borrow ebooks and audiobooks that fit their needs. Think about your Listen to Reading center &#8211; what if you could tailor audiobooks that matched your STEAM curriculum? Well, you can with hoopla!</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">What are my favorite titles available on hoopla?</h4>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Well, there are truly SO many, but here are a few:</p>

<figure class="wp-block-gallery columns-3 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex"><ul class="blocks-gallery-grid"><li class="blocks-gallery-item"><figure><img <p class="wp-block-paragraph">Like I mentioned before, their resource library is MASSIVE!</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">In fact, I got so excited about what hoopla has to offer that I created another free lesson plan for you!</h4>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Using &#8220;Mechanimals&#8221; by Chris Tougas, available right on <a href="http://hoopladigital.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hoopla digital</a>, students will work through the five step engineering process &#8211; <em>(1) Ask, (2) Imagine, (3) Plan, (4) Create, and (5) Improve</em> &#8211; to answer the challenge question: <strong>How can we design a mechanical animal that will perform a specific job for a farmer?</strong></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="821" height="1024" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/IMG_1068-821x1024.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-8585" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/IMG_1068-821x1024.jpg 821w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/IMG_1068-600x748.jpg 600w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/IMG_1068-241x300.jpg 241w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/IMG_1068-768x958.jpg 768w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/IMG_1068.jpg 1838w" sizes="(max-width: 821px) 100vw, 821px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In this STEAM experience, students will create a mechanical animal that helps the farmer with a job of the student&#8217;s choice. Talk about opening the doors for your students to get creative!</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="819" height="1024" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Turkey-STEAM-Activity-The-Teaching-Texan-1-of-1-2-819x1024.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-8586" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Turkey-STEAM-Activity-The-Teaching-Texan-1-of-1-2-819x1024.jpg 819w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Turkey-STEAM-Activity-The-Teaching-Texan-1-of-1-2-600x750.jpg 600w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Turkey-STEAM-Activity-The-Teaching-Texan-1-of-1-2-240x300.jpg 240w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Turkey-STEAM-Activity-The-Teaching-Texan-1-of-1-2-768x960.jpg 768w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Turkey-STEAM-Activity-The-Teaching-Texan-1-of-1-2-scaled.jpg 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 819px) 100vw, 819px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can truly go mild to wild with what materials students build with &#8211; from cut paper to clay, recyclables, and more. I made this turkey mechanical animal that has tons of eyes that act as cameras to help the farmer patrol for predators entering the farm &#8211; y&#8217;all literally ideas and creativity will be flowing through your kiddos&#8217; minds!</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Mechanical-Animal-STEAM-Lesson-Plan-8x8-1024x1024.png" alt="" class="wp-image-8588" srcset="https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Mechanical-Animal-STEAM-Lesson-Plan-8x8-1024x1024.png 1024w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Mechanical-Animal-STEAM-Lesson-Plan-8x8-300x300.png 300w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Mechanical-Animal-STEAM-Lesson-Plan-8x8-100x100.png 100w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Mechanical-Animal-STEAM-Lesson-Plan-8x8-600x600.png 600w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Mechanical-Animal-STEAM-Lesson-Plan-8x8-150x150.png 150w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Mechanical-Animal-STEAM-Lesson-Plan-8x8-768x768.png 768w, https://theteachingtexan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Mechanical-Animal-STEAM-Lesson-Plan-8x8-205x205.png 205w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What Does Your Math Block Look Like?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">No, really — take a second and picture it.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Are your students quietly completing a worksheet… or are they buzzing with excitement, collaborating, and truly <em>thinking</em>?</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In my kindergarten classroom, math is <em>loud</em>, <em>collaborative</em>, and <em>fun</em>! My students look forward to math time because I use <strong>math games and centers</strong> that keep them moving, talking, and building real understanding. They think they’re just playing — but I know they’re mastering critical math concepts along the way.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And now, we’ve added a festive twist with our <strong>Thanksgiving-themed math centers!</strong></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Setting Up Thanksgiving Math Centers<br></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">While everyone’s favorite dollar spot didn’t have Thanksgiving erasers this year, I found adorable <strong>Thanksgiving manipulatives</strong> from <em>Oriental Trading</em> that were perfect for our games! I grabbed some storage containers from Dollar Tree, and we were ready to go.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">(And if you don’t have seasonal counters — no worries! Printable counters are included with the games.)</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f9e9.png" alt="🧩" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Kindergarten Thanksgiving Math Games</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Let’s take a peek at what’s inside this festive math pack. Each game was designed with differentiation, collaboration, and fun in mind — perfect for your <em>Kindergarten Thanksgiving math centers!</em></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Who doesn’t love a little friendly competition? In Turkey Trot, students practice <em>addition and subtraction</em> while collecting turkeys along the way. The player with the most turkeys at the end wins!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Students roll a die, check the key at the top of the mat (ex: a 2 = circle), and move to the next real-world object showing that shape. This one builds <em>shape recognition</em> and helps children connect geometric concepts to real life.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This fast-paced favorite builds <em>subitizing skills</em> — helping students recognize quantities instantly without counting each dot. It can be played solo or in partners, cooperatively or competitively.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I’m not even exaggerating when I say I’m <em>obsessed</em> with this one! Students practice <em>skip counting by 10s to 100</em> as they race their way to the finish line. Perfect for small groups or math intervention.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Number Harvest practices <em>one-to-one correspondence</em> and <em>number writing</em> from 1–12. You can easily differentiate by letting advanced learners roll two dice and add them together to record sums up to 12.</p>

10 hours&#8230; in a car&#8230;&nbsp; Sounds awful!&nbsp; Fortunately, I actually like driving on long trips.&nbsp; It&#8217;s so calming to just put on a good Pandora station and jam down the highway.&nbsp; Of course I will be trading off with the mister throughout the drive so that I can work on a huge packet that is almost finished!</div>

Time to hit the road.&nbsp; Before you head to another Wordless Wednesday post, leave me a message telling me what your Thanksgiving plans are!&nbsp; I hope that each of you have a fantastic Thanksgiving full of family and friends.</div>
